What is a Webpage Index?

 

It is a process of listing and allows the webpage to appear in search engines when users type in relevant queries. Web indexing is an important process for website owners, as it can affect their visibility, traffic, and user experience.

 

There is some factors that affect web indexing as below:

  • The quality and relevance of the content on the webpage
  • The use of keywords, meta tags, and URLs that match the user’s intent
  • The speed, mobile-friendliness, and accessibility of the webpage
  • The submission of a sitemap to the search engines
  • The avoidance of duplicate content, broken links, and crawl errors

 

There are 3  ways to check if a webpage is indexed.

(a) Use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console. This tool provides information about Google’s indexed version of a specific page, and also allows you to test whether a URL might be indexable.

(b) Use a site operator in Google search. For example, type site:example.com in the search box and see if the page appears in the results. If it does, then it is indexed. If not, then it might not be indexed or it might be blocked by robots.txt or meta tags.

(c) Use a third-party tool. You can easily find third-party tools when you search around. These tools allow you to check your website’s pages in bulk to see if they’re indexed. Some tools might offer other features such as email notifications and recurring checks.
